JJ Huelsman Metalwork

BIO
JJ Huelsman came to metalwork later in life after careers in education and arts administration. He first took notice of metal and its use for adornment on museum visits while living in Europe. Initially fascinated by Roman era chain, over time the ornamentation of metal objects used as garment closures captured his attention as well. With a rekindled interest in metal he came back to the States and began learning basic fabrication skills at the jeweler’s bench.

Since returning to Oklahoma, Huelsman has continued his investigation of ornamentation and its application to jewelry and sculptural forms. He shows regularly within the state where he is recognized for his approach to wirework and interest in the creation of shallow sculptural space.

His Bachelor of Fine Arts degree is from Ohio University and he received a Master of Fine Arts from Indiana State University.
Huelsman currently lives and works in Oklahoma City.
