jumbo bottom barrel works

Lovettsville, VA

The barrels themselves are what inspired me. I happened to come across a lot of barrels for sale and knew they could become something really cool rather than just being sawn in half to make planters. Constructed of quarter-sawn white oak, they are a source of premium furniture wood with refined grain that is not only beautiful but strong and stable. The curve of barrel staves naturally lends itself to furniture contours. Each barrel is unique and challenges me to reveal it's individual possibilities. For me, it's truly rewarding to create long-lasting, locally-sourced, recycled products.

I dismantle retired wine barrels and use the individual components; staves, barrel heads and hoops, to construct furniture and other home and garden creations.
