My work reflects a variety of different influences, but nature seems to always be the strongest one. I like to look to the patterns and rhythms in nature, whether it's pattern of bark on a tree or the subtle ripple skirting across the surface of the water, and abstract these patterns by exaggerating their qualities. Often times I take from a few different plant and creature references (from the land and sea) and combine patterns and textures to create a new curious, organic form all together. Working in clay has allowed for me to really push the limits of my forms and test how well my ideas and concepts can be translated through this material. I approach each piece with with an openness; since my forms are very organic I feel like the process should be too, and embrace any changes that occur in the creation process.
