For its 2017 artist focus, American Craft Week chose to search for exceptional craftspeople who began their working lives in a career other than craft. We wanted to know their stories, particularly what led them to craft and why they find this way of life satisfying and successful.
We thank everyone who entered this year’s contest. We were amazed at the number, quality and diversity of nominations.
In the jurying process, The ACW National Committee looked for these characteristics:
- Excellence in design and skill level
- An impressive body of work
- The artist’s story of how he/she switched professions to embrace craft
- A strong measure of professional success as a crafts person
Please join us in congratulating the winners! We hope their stories provide inspiration to others to live a craft-centered life!
Finally, we ask you to join us in encouraging and supporting the artists in your communities!
